	Memeo upgrades Send, its FedEx for digital files I wrote about Memeo’s GDrive document synchronization tool in June, but the company has also been working more quietly on another product — Memeo Send. Where Memeo Connect and the GDrive are a way for users to store and synchronize their documents among all of their own devices, Memeo Send is an easy way to send electronic files.

Google offers a lot of very good web apps (like Gmail, Calendar, Wave, Docs, and others) that people literally use for all their needs and can’t live without. You can view any documents, including videos and PDF files (Memeo uses the browser and Google’s web apps to display them), but sadly you can’t edit them directly from the application. You can do it via Safari though, and the developer promises to integrate that feature in a future release. Also, the app is completely free, which is just great considering how useful it is.

	Long-rumored "GDrive" a reality thanks to Memeo Connect 2.0 Rumors that Google was planning to launch a cloud-based storage system similar to Apple's iDisk or Microsoft's SkyDrive, called "GDrive" have persisted since 2006. That service never materialized, but cloud services company Memeo has incorporated Google Docs' ability to store any arbitrary file into its Connect syncing software. The upcoming 2.0 version, currently available as a limited beta, adds an integrated "GDrive" on any Windows or Mac desktop, finally delivering on the promise of that four-year-old rumor.
	Google gets the fabled GDrive, courtesy of Memeo It might sound misleading for Memeo to use a name that has such strong associations with Google, but it’s actually pretty accurate — the Aliso Viejo, Calif.-based company built the application, but Google Docs serves as storage on the backend. Memeo said it developed the application with help from Google, and in fact itlaunched the app at the same time as Google announced the Docs storage feature in January.
	Memeo Connect 2.0 Makes GDrive A Reality Memeo’s GDrive lets you drag and drop entire folders into your Google Docs account, much as you would with a service like Dropbox. You can also save directly to this cloud-attached drive from an application’s ‘Save As’ command. If you open the drive, you can double click on files to open them with your desktop’s native software, then save the changes back to the cloud (again, as you would with services like Dropbox). The app is available for both Mac and Windows.
	Memeo Connect Reader 1.0 for IPad Connect Reader has a 200-file limit, which might be a severe restriction for some users, especially if Google Docs is used in a business with several users. A Memeo representative said that this limit was imposed when the app was being developed before the iPad was released; the developer wanted to insure adequate performance. Memeo plans to lift this restriction in the next release.
	Future-proof your data storage Configuring my GoFlex Pro drive was straightforward for both Windows and Mac machines. During the short menu-driven installation routine, the Seagate Dashboard, which is licensed from Memeo, is set up. This provides free access to Memeo's excellent premium backup service (users of the basic GoFlex drive get free access to Memeo's simpler backup software or can upgrade to the premium software).
	Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex Pro (500GB) We should applaud Seagate for doing away with installer CDs and bundling all the software installer files you need directly on the drive so you have them everywhere you go. That said, installing the Memeo backup software is a breeze on both Mac and PCs. Once you're up and running, you'll see that the Seagate Dashboard (also powered by Memeo) on the desktop serves as a hub for viewing previous backups and also provides an overlying view of data on the drive.

The doc viewer is outstanding, with all types of documents (DOC, XLS, PPT, PDF, images, video) displaying perfectly. Memeo syncs docs with the iPad so important ones are always available, even without a web connection. I highly recommend this app for Google Docs users.

	Memeo Share for the iPhone. “The app is well-designed, with an intuitive layout…” Memeo Share is a free iPhone app from Memeo for sharing photos with friends and family. Memeo Share started life as a Web-based app for uploading and tagging photos to share them easily with people of your choosing. Using the Web site or the cross-platform desktop Memeo clients, you could upload photos to Memeo’s servers, and they’d magically show up (in full resolution) in your friends’ Memeo accounts.

Sending those big files through email can be a problem, since sometimes the receiver's ISP limits the size of files that can be received. It's slow and expensive to send files on external hard drives, USB flash drives, or DVDs through express mail shipping methods. 	Memeo share gets 5 stars rating! Congrats to Memeo for receiving a five star rating from cnet’s download.com for the new release of Memeo Share, version 2! Download.com just gave Memeo Share a five star editor’s rating, and they’ve got a nice more detailed blog post about the software here. The accolades are well deserved. I’ve been a huge Memeo fan with their sync products which keep all of my PCs up to date with whatever current content I’m working on.
	Memeo means business with new backup software Backing up data is important and should be done often. But remembering and knowing how to do it is a different story. Share photos easily with anyone, anywhere
Even in the 21st century, friends and relatives always promise to share their photos after a party, vacation, or other special event--but hardly anyone ever does. Why? Because, despite recent advances in photo sharing, it's a pain in the backside. The time-honored method of sending out pictures is via e-mail attachments. But this approach limits the number of snapshots you can send, and creates organizational hassles for the recipients. Two popular photo-hosting services--Flickr and PicasaWeb--offer ways take your snapshots to the Web, but not everyone loves Flickr's confusing interface or PicasaWeb's antiseptic one.

Software gets the picture
My favourite is a new package from California-based Memeo (www.memeo.com) called Memeo Share, which was launched in beta form this summer. Memeo addresses many of the shortcomings of other online photo sharing services that operate in the background to send high-resolution digital images directly to the computer desktops of friends and family in a sharing “circle”. Users do not have to resize, edit or manually upload the images or attach them to e-mail – a sure way to clog up the recipients’ inboxes. Those on the receiving end do not even need to install the Memeo software – they can set up an RSS (Really Simple Syndication) news feed or just check Memeo’s website to get the images they want.

Memeo: Share photos with your grandma
Memeo has announced the launch of Memeo Share 1.0, MemeoPhoto, and a public preview of Memeo Share for the Mac. The services allow families and friends to share photos and video directly via PC, Mac, or the iPhone. It works by allowing users to set up “Sharing Circles” with the people they want to share with. Once completed, Memeo Share runs in the background, automatically sending and receiving media and posting them to a private web gallery.

Have you ever used the synchronize files feature in Windows? This is the feature that allows you to make files available offline when you are not connected to a network drive. It also allows you to make updates to offline files which end up being synchronized once you are connected back to the network. Unfortunately, many people find this difficult to setup in Windows or have found it to not be that reliable. This would explain why there are other third party applications out there which make synchronization between two file folders much easier. We recently put one of those applications, Memeo’s AutoSync, to the test in order to see how easy synchronizing could be.
