Memeo upgrades Send, its FedEx for digital files
I wrote about Memeo’s GDrive document synchronization tool in June, but the company has also been working more quietly on another product — Memeo Send. Where Memeo Connect and the GDrive are a way for users to store and synchronize their documents among all of their own devices, Memeo Send is an easy way to send electronic files.

Top 8 Cool iPad Apps To Manage Your Time And Work
A lot of business professionals and startup entrepreneurs have Google accounts. Google offers a lot of very good web apps (like Gmail, Calendar, Wave, Docs, and others) that people literally use for all their needs and can’t live without. Memeo lets you sync all of the files on your iPad with your Google account and vice versa. You can view any documents, including videos and PDF files (Memeo uses the browser and Google’s web apps to display them), but sadly you can’t edit them directly from the application. You can do it via Safari though, and the developer promises to integrate that feature in a future release. Also, the app is completely free, which is just great considering how useful it is.

Memeo unveiled a major update to Memeo Connect today with the launch of theMemeo Connect 2.0 beta. Memeo Connect 2.0 adds features and functionality to make Google Docs more productive and enterprise ready, including Google GDrive--a concept that Google customers have been demanding since Google Docs was first introduced.

Memeo Launches "GDrive" with Google's Blessing
Memeo, the company behind a host of backup, sharing and synchronization tools and mobile applications, has just launchedMemeo Connect 2.0, an updated version of its earlier desktop-to-cloud synchronization service for Google Docs.
Like its progenitor, Memeo Connect still offers drag-and-drop uploads, but in the latest release, the application's operating system integration has been dramatically improved. Most notably, your Google Docs folder now appears as a virtual drive that Memeo labels "GDrive", and, according to company representatives, the name is being used with Google's blessin

Memeo intros 2.0 beta for Google Docs syncing and management app
Memeo Connect may have just launched in January, but the Google Docs syncing and management application is already in line for a make-over. On Wednesday, Memeo unveiled a public beta of Memeo Connect 2.0, with GDrive integration and enhanced full-text search leading the parade of changes to the application.

Long-rumored "GDrive" a reality thanks to Memeo Connect 2.0
Rumors that Google was planning to launch a cloud-based storage system similar to Apple's iDisk or Microsoft's SkyDrive, called "GDrive" have persisted since 2006. That service never materialized, but cloud services company Memeo has incorporated Google Docs' ability to store any arbitrary file into its Connect syncing software. The upcoming 2.0 version, currently available as a limited beta, adds an integrated "GDrive" on any Windows or Mac desktop, finally delivering on the promise of that four-year-old rumor.

Google gets the fabled GDrive, courtesy of Memeo
It might sound misleading for Memeo to use a name that has such strong associations with Google, but it’s actually pretty accurate — the Aliso Viejo, Calif.-based company built the application, but Google Docs serves as storage on the backend. Memeo said it developed the application with help from Google, and in fact itlaunched the app at the same time as Google announced the Docs storage feature in January.
|

|
Memeo Connect 2.0 Makes GDrive A Reality
Memeo’s GDrive lets you drag and drop entire folders into your Google Docs account, much as you would with a service like Dropbox. You can also save directly to this cloud-attached drive from an application’s ‘Save As’ command. If you open the drive, you can double click on files to open them with your desktop’s native software, then save the changes back to the cloud (again, as you would with services like Dropbox). The app is available for both Mac and Windows.

|
Memeo Connect Reader 1.0 for IPad
Connect Reader has a 200-file limit, which might be a severe restriction for some users, especially if Google Docs is used in a business with several users. A Memeo representative said that this limit was imposed when the app was being developed before the iPad was released; the developer wanted to insure adequate performance. Memeo plans to lift this restriction in the next release.

Future-proof your data storage
Configuring my GoFlex Pro drive was straightforward for both Windows and Mac machines. During the short menu-driven installation routine, the Seagate Dashboard, which is licensed from Memeo, is set up. This provides free access to Memeo's excellent premium backup service (users of the basic GoFlex drive get free access to Memeo's simpler backup software or can upgrade to the premium software).

|
Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex Pro (500GB)
We should applaud Seagate for doing away with installer CDs and bundling all the software installer files you need directly on the drive so you have them everywhere you go. That said, installing the Memeo backup software is a breeze on both Mac and PCs. Once you're up and running, you'll see that the Seagate Dashboard (also powered by Memeo) on the desktop serves as a hub for viewing previous backups and also provides an overlying view of data on the drive.

This Week in Mobile Tech Manor #83: Typing on iPad
The interface of Memeo Connect is an attractive folder scheme. The doc viewer is outstanding, with all types of documents (DOC, XLS, PPT, PDF, images, video) displaying perfectly. Memeo syncs docs with the iPad so important ones are always available, even without a web connection. I highly recommend this app for Google Docs users.

Office Productivity in the Cloud with the iPad
With my Wi-Fi only iPad, though, I can't count on always being connected to the cloud. Thankfully, Memeo has an app to solve that problem sort of. Memeo Connect Reader syncs your documents from Google Docs so they are available on the iPad even when its offline. You can view the docs no matter where you are--connected or not--in native formats for Microsoft Office, Apple iWorks, PDF files and more.

Memeo iPad Reader: Like the GDrive on your iPad (only different)
Remember the fabled GDrive? It never took off. I’d actually say that this is one of the bigger weaknesses in Google’s Apps-related offerings. Microsoft, after all, offers 25GB of free storage on their Windows Live SkyDrive and while you can now upload any file types to Google Docs (with much more granular sharing permissions I should add), the GDrive remains a pipedream. That’s where Memeo comes in.

Memeo Instant Backup Protects Your Data
Windows 7 is being released today. Will you be updating your computer to the new operating system? If so, you will need to backup your data. This is especially important for XP users, as the hard drive will have to be wiped clean before installing Windows 7. Memeo has a solution to protect the sensitive data from your hard drive with Memeo Instant Backup and Memeo Backup Premium.

Just
Add Water? Memeo Instant Backup
When I first heard about Memeo Instant Backup, I objected
that no program that backed up your entire hard drive
could possibly be “instant.” Hard drives are getting
bigger and bigger, so copying them takes longer and
longer.
Robert Phillips explained to me that the “instant” part
refers to the fact that the backup process starts instantly:
as soon as you install the product, it begins backing
you up. You don’t have to tell Instant Backup anything
except where you want it to put your files. It’s designed
to be easy enough for your grandparents to use, and the
author of the press release tried it on hers to make
sure.

Send — The FedEx of File Sending?
I got word yesterday of a new file sending service called
Memeo Send, so I decided to give it a try. The concept
is to offer a simple, secure way to send digital files
without the hassle of email or File Transfer Protocol clients.
There’s no limit to the package size and you can send either
individual files or entire folders. Memeo Send supports
both Mac OS X and Microsoft Windows, so I figured the best
test is to use both types of computers.

Memeo
Improves Large File Sharing For Business
Memeo Send allows individuals to share videos, presentations
and digital images of any size, providing a more efficient
solution to the size limitation hassles of email, complex
FTP sites or time and cost of mailing CDs / DVDs. To send
files or 'packages', users simply drag and drop files or
folders into the application or use the browsing tool to
select content from anywhere on the computer. The sender
can also include a message with the file before sending
directly. On the receiving end, users can download via
a Web browser of desktop client.
|
 |
Memeo
Send: Like a digital UPS for businesses
Memeo Send opens as a simple, yet attractive desktop application
that uploads files two ways: you can browse the file tree,
or you can drag and drop from an open folder to the Memeo
Send interface. After that, selecting recipients and jotting
down an optional description are all that's left to ship
out your parcel of files.

First
Look: Memeo Send with special deal for TUAW readers
Do you need to send large files to clients or friends?
Sending those big files through email can be a problem,
since sometimes the receiver's ISP limits the size of files
that can be received. It's slow and expensive to send files
on external hard drives, USB flash drives, or DVDs through
express mail shipping methods. If you've ever tried to
explain the simplicity of FTP to someone who is less than
computer-savvy, sending huge files through FTP becomes
a problem.

Share Gets Social
In the wide world of photo-sharing tools,
Memeo Share makes a strong effort to retain your focus
with online backups, support for full-resolution photos
and videos, social networking features, and a revamped
interface.
The basics should be familiar to many users. Once installed,
Memeo starts with a user-friendly design: big buttons
delineate tasks, your profile and friends are on the
left sidebar, Activity and Sharing Circles are in the
central pane, and the members of the current circle you're
sharing with are on the right. The Sharing Circle is
the big concept behind Memeo Share. It lets people create
private groups whose members can interact with each other,
but only upon invite. In addition to autoposting to Facebook
and YouTube, Memeo Share now scans your Web mail address
book for more contacts to invite.

means business with new backup software
Backing up data is important and should be
done often. But remembering and knowing how to do it is
a different story. With this in mind, Memeo--an online

such as photo sharing (download)--has released a backup
solution for business users that will help keep track of
backing up data. Memeo Backup Professional 4.5 (download)
is tied to an online console, from which an admin user
can remotely view the status of backups of other users.
This means that once it's installed on network computers,
a single admin can oversee the backup status for the whole

Share
photos easily with anyone, anywhere
Even in the 21st century, friends and relatives always
promise to share their photos after a party, vacation,
or other special event--but hardly anyone ever does. Why?
Because, despite recent advances in photo sharing, it's
a pain in the backside. The time-honored
method of sending out pictures is via e-mail attachments.
But this approach limits the number of snapshots you can
send, and creates organizational hassles for the recipients.
Two popular photo-hosting services--Flickr and PicasaWeb--offer
ways take your snapshots to the Web, but not everyone loves
Flickr's confusing interface or PicasaWeb's antiseptic
one.

Look: Memeo Share, direct digital photo sharing
Nearly everyone has a separate digital camera, or one built
into a mobile phone or computer. While taking a basic picture
is easy, sharing pictures may not be. You can show them
in person of course, but if someone lives far away, your
choices are more limited. You can print and mail your pictures,
which costs money and takes time; the alternative is e-mailing
them or posting them to a website, but many pictures can
be several megabytes in size, limiting the amount that
can be sent.

My favourite is a new package from California-based Memeo
(www.memeo.com) called Memeo
Share, which was launched in beta form this summer.
Memeo addresses many of the shortcomings of other online
photo sharing services that operate in the background to
send high-resolution digital images directly to the computer
desktops of friends and family in a sharing “circle”. Users
do not have to resize, edit or manually upload the images
or attach them to e-mail – a sure way to clog up the recipients’
inboxes. Those on the receiving end do not even need to
install the Memeo software – they can set up an RSS (Really
Simple Syndication) news feed or just check Memeo’s website
to get the images they want.

organizer as well as a media uploader, and keeps the process
as simple as possible. It works on three levels: keeping
your media ordered and tidy, allowing you to share those
photos and videos with your family and friends instantly,
and getting your snaps onto supported social networking
websites, such as Youtube and Facebook.

Synchronize
your files with Memeo AutoSync
geek.com - March 4, 2008
Have you ever used the synchronize
files feature in Windows? This is
the feature that allows you to make files
available offline when you are not connected
to a network drive. It also allows you
to make updates to offline files which
end up being synchronized once you are
connected back to the network. Unfortunately,
many people find this difficult to setup
in Windows or have found it to not be
that reliable. This would explain why
there are other third party applications
out there which make synchronization
between two file folders much easier.
We recently put one of those applications,
Memeo’s AutoSync, to the test in order
to see how easy synchronizing could be.

Is How Backup Software Should Work
Network world, CA - Jan 7, 2008
I love it when someone rethinks a basic, everyday problem
and comes up with an approach that's much more suitable
for the end user. Why isn't backing up files continuously
this easy on everyone Windows computer? I think Memeo has
come up with a 'better mousetrap" rather than just
assuming the old standard way of doing things was good
enough. Kudo's Memeo. This is how end user backup software
should work.

If you're already implementing a backup strategy, switching

has multiple backup options, a single-click restore should
your computer crash (or, according to Memeo, should you
want to clone your data to a new computer), keeps redundant
data if that's what you want it to do and also has a very
straightforward user interface. Its simplicity could be

AutoSync, The Easy Way To Get In Sync
PC Today - Mobile Software - March 2007 • Vol.5 Issue 3
Synchronizing files between multiple devices often feels
like an unnecessarily painful process. Recognizing this,
Memeo made AutoSync easy to install, configure, and use.
Using AutoSync is a simple, three-step process. Once it’s
set up, AutoSync works behind the scenes... Whenever you
add or remove a file, or change a name, AutoSync automatically
updates the synced folders. You can create multiple sync
plans, each with its own set of folders. You can also interleave
or nest sync plans so that a change to one sync plan cascades
through other sync plans...
